Activated clay bags are made from Bentonite clay, which is a naturally occurring mineral unlike our other synthetic desiccants, making it more economical. At 20% RH, these desiccants will absorb 50% more moisture than is required by MIL-P-116-E, unlike silica gel which will only absorb 3% more than required by MIL-D-3464E; therefore they exceed the moisture vapour absorption of silica gel at U.S. government specification levels and the U.S. military specifications.
These desiccants also meet with the Method II Packaging Standards in MIL-P-116-E, which are the basic requirements for military packaging methods of preservation. For Method II the RH must be kept below 40% inside the package during normal storage over a period of 18 months to 2 years. These desiccants will maintain this level of RH while also preventing rust, mildew and corrosion damage inside a waterproof and moisture vapour-proof container.
